I don't think Hymns can be called a heavy metal album, it doesn't sound heavy metal (I mean, traditionnal) at all, even if there is the «idea», with the use of real drums and being maybe a little more simplistic and accessible than usually. Of course you will never find the catchiness of a NIN album here, but despite their brutality, Godflesh find moments where they mellow out, like Anthem. One of Godflesh.
